Chongqing(Chóngqìng,formerlyspelledChungking)isfastbecomingthemosteconomicallyimportantcityintheinteriorWestChina,withanurbanpopulationofaround8.8million.Inadditiontothecentralurbanarea,themunicipalityofChongqingalsoincludessome80,000km²(31,000sqmi)oftheneighboringcountrysideandsmallertowns,withapproximately30millionpeoplealtogether.
